I think part of why this whole court scene/mastermind song falls SO FUCKING FLAT, is that it's trying to be coy and sarcastic....when its just.......not??

The song is supposed to be this fake bolstering from Stolas. Its supposed to be him playing into this caricature of what the Goetia are like, how Stolas is supposed to view imps and Blitz. It's him acting like "Yes! Tis I! The evil bad man who never cared!! I think imps are stupid!!"

And we're supposed to watch this, and think "but..........Stolas doesn't think that.........Stolas....respects Blitz?"

When he doesn't.

Stolas has been forcing Blitz into non consensual raceplay kink since they met. Stolas has been unironically calling Blitz "imp plaything" since they started fucking. He constantly sexts, and calls him to talk about his "huge dick" when Blitz' makes extremely obvious both in words and body language that he does not like being treated like that.

(could go on a separate rant about how brown/black men are often hypersexualized for their bodies and how their perceived has big and aggressive. Actually with the court scene and Blitz being accused of rape after he was sex trafficked, that's actually extremely relevant here-)

Stolas has EXCLUSIVELY used Blitz for sex. Every opportunity he's had to have a normal interaction with him, he's spent trying to fuck.

The date they had was spent with Blitz being publicly hate crimed, Stolas doing nothing to defend him and then acting like Blitz is the asshole for not wanting to "hang out" after he was, again, HATE CRIMED.

The whole trip at Loolooland was just Stolas tryna fuck instead of spend time with his daughter.

Speaking of daughter. Anyone wanna talk about how Stolas has been openly sexually abusing his daughter for the entire show????

Anyway, the point is, the new ep is trying to be like "whao..........Stolas is making all this degrading stuff up to save him!!!" NO HE ISN'T. HE ALREADY BELIEVES ALL OF THESE THINGS. AND HAS NEVER APOLOGIZED OR CHANGED HIS BEHAVIOR.

Stolas' character arc SHOULD be him facing his racist upbringing and bias, growing and changing from it. The solution to this power imbalance and racism isn't to like.....make the white slave owner just....poor?? What????

also, doing a "I'd rather die then live without you" bit is stupid enough, but its especially stupid when they're not even friends. Gun to Stolas' head, can he say ANYTHING about who Blitz is as a person, or what he likes outside of sex? Stolas can't even say what kinks Blitz has because their sexual relationship was purely one-sided survival and not like, fun for Blitz either

Anyway this show sucks lmao. Obligatory proship mention because I dont want to get lumped in with the people who say "what did they think would happen?" about val fans getting sent death/rape threats.

Also on the topic of proshipping, I think people should note that a good majority of proshippers are not only mentally unwell and need mental help, but were more than likely groomed by a proshit before them. Its weird just in general that we've normalized a 21yr old being besties with a 15yr old online, but it becomes even more dangerous when you have a normal, sane, decent adult old talking to kids so often that these impressionable kids are thinking they know internet safety and that they can trust the adults around them. Its shit like that that gets kids to trust the wrong people and then eventually become the wrong people themselves. Even a good adult can put a kid on a path to a bad one. Obviously thats not EVERY case, but you'll never catch me as a man in his twenties talking to a minor daily. That's also not to say you can't interact with a minor every now and then, like a post, draw a commission, debate video game lore, you just can't be out here talking to this kid so regularly that they don't know the difference between you, their friend of age, and their mother. Of course a child you've developed a bond with is going to think you can do no wrong and might even follow in your footsteps. i've been consuming a lot of madrigalcest discourse because i'm a messy bitch that lives for the drama and, like. so. main split on one thing is proships being like "bruno canonly writes incest fanfic" and antis being like "IT'S NOT SERIOUS IT'S JUST A JOKE ABOUT TELENOVELAS" but like.

I've watched quite a few novelas in my time. when my abuela lived with us, also there was a summer when my mom consumed literally nothing but, and I gotta say... wild plots? essential. secret relatives? absolutely. crazy marriages? totally.

incest is absolutely not common. I can't speak about colombia specifically (most novelas I've seen are mexican), but I consulted my mom's near encyclopedic memory of terrible tv shows and she could only think up one (la candidata). and that one was exceptional because it covered that subject matter.

so, like, maybe you can argue the joke came from a writer more familiar with american soap operas (where that plot is more common)? and maybe colombia is secretly up to some real freaky shit in its novelas and it should share with the rest of the class? but yeah the point goes to the proships on this one. my man bruno got an AO3 account.

ok hot take but also i feel like the "ao3 needs as much money as possible bc theyre the last stand for fanfic rights and at any moment everything can be lost just like it was a decade ago" feels so... similar to the fear propagated by the state to defend anti terrorism initiatives or over policing. which i am not saying that these are the same things (fandom is just fandom in the end lol) but the way that this side of fandom is majority white women and kinda falling for the same line of thought is just...?

bc it is similar to the "we are the last stand against freedom and at any moment your lives can be taken away" based off of past threats where this "last stand" doesnt even fucking do anything.

but the inability to question anything with ao3 is just soooo weird where its viewed as questioning the right for fandom to exist. people see ao3 as the only thing protecting fandoms ability to exist and that they are the single thing keeping creators at bay from purging all fandom when forreal and actually? that hasnt been a threat for the last decade. the culture around fanfiction has changed since then where creators are more eager to see fans engage with it and encourage it. the handful of ones who dont are treated as a minority and kinda actively shamed. you really cant do an anne rice nowadays and not get a shit ton of backlash, not just from fans, but other creators too. like dude... if youre pitching books to agents they actually encourage you to mention if youve written fic because it shows how you engage with an audience 😭

that doesnt mean fic is safe with no threat against it, but the lack of action taken against fic isnt because of ao3... its just bc the climate has changed and ppl who were fans in the 90s are creators today

but again its a culture of "you cant question ao3 about ANYTHING or youre jeopardizing fanfiction" which is definitely bc of the weird polarization of proship/anti stuff that impacts shit thats not even relevant dndjdkdjdn like? wanting the site to update its tagging system, add the ability to save filters, block users, have a better response to harassment, actively state that it does not condone racism and bigotry, get rid of the invite system, etc etc isnt anything that really has to do with ship shit but its taken as Anti Stances which is fucking wilddddd
